Awards & Badges

1st Swim School strongly acknowledges the importance of setting challenges and rewarding effort and achievement. The 1st Swim programme mainly utilises the STA International Swimming and Water Safety Standards (ISWSS) supplemented by both Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) and Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) awards for our more proficient swimmers.

The ISWSS “Learn to Swim” programme is a progressive scheme starting from the Starfish Series, introducing babies to the pool environment, through to awards for advanced level swimmers.

In addition, our top level swimmers are given the opportunity to try out and obtain awards from other disciplines through the ASA “Aquafun” (synchronised swimming), “Flip n Fun” (diving), “Mini-Polo” (water polo) schemes as well as RLSS Rookie Life Saving.

Certificates and badges are an important aspect of our programme but not the main focus. Constant emphasis on badge and certificate achievement can detract from our aims; so swimming awards are only presented to each child at the end of the swimming year.

Encouragement in the form of stickers, wristbands and “Well Done” certificates are given to younger swimmers throughout the term.
